中央研究院位於台北盆地東緣,南港山系北側,四分溪蜿蜒流過,雖然院區內大樓林立,但刻意營造的生態池,基因體中心周圍復育的小森林,起於體育館後方森林生態研究園區登山步道,在生態志工們的努力下,種植許多南港山系的原生植物,漸漸恢復自然的森林樣貌,打造出豐富多樣的生態環境;並利用院區有限綠地串連出生態綠廊,讓有大樹的綠帶由院區中心連接到山邊,讓周圍淺山的野生動物可以藉由這個通道進到院區。依據eBird的記錄,在中研院出現的鳥類超過110種;獸類除了外來種犬貓,則有台灣大蹄鼻蝠、長趾鼠耳蝠、台灣獼猴、台灣刺鼠、鼬獾、白鼻心、麝香貓、食蟹獴、穿山甲、山羌、赤腹松鼠、大赤鼯鼠等。
Situated at the eastern foothills of Taipei Basin as well as the northern edge of the Nangang Mountain Range, the campus of Academia Sinica not only constitutes of concrete buildings but a mosaic of natural and artificial environments including ponds, natural forests and reforested areas, providing diverse habitats for more than 110 bird species and various mammals such as bats, civets, flying squirrels, muntjacs and even pangolins.
這只標本是由漁業署派駐遠洋漁船的海上觀察員自南太平洋的作業船隻所攜回,由博物館同仁及志工依其常見側立雙翼划過海面的飛行姿態製作標本,用以宣導遠洋鮪魚延繩釣導致的混獲 (By-catch) 而使全球信天翁族群下滑的保育議題,以推廣「台灣鮪延繩釣漁業減少意外捕獲海鳥國家行動計畫」。
漂泊信天翁分布於南太平洋中、高緯度海域,擁有現生鳥類的最大翼展,平均翼展3.1公尺,最大紀錄達3.7公尺,憑藉其巨大的翼展,以動態翱翔(Dynamic soaring)的方式,耗費很低的能量長距離飛翔;以魷魚、小魚為食,經常跟隨漁船撿拾魚餌及魚雜,因此常誤食魚餌而成為遠洋漁業延繩釣漁法的犧牲品;有著特別長的繁殖週期,每二年繁殖一次。在分類學研究上,漂泊信天翁與其相近的數個種或亞種組成一個複合群,在這個複合群中,各個分類階層之有效性在學界中迄今仍未能獲得共識。
This specimen, collected by fisheries observers, showcases the wandering albatross's flight to highlight bycatch issues in longline tuna fishing. The albatross, with a wingspan up to 3.7 meters, often follows fishing vessels, becoming bycatch victims. The display promotes Taiwan's action plan to reduce seabird bycatch.
全球記錄有60種海鳥曾被魚船意外捕獲,影響較大的漁法包括延繩釣及拖網漁業。延繩釣漁船在海上投放魚餌時,海鳥會伺機搶食魚餌,因而可能被魚鉤鉤到,造成傷亡,其中黑眉信天翁、白頷鸌及漂泊信天翁是最常被誤捕的海鳥種類。
Globally, 60 species of seabirds have been accidentally caught by fishing vessels. The fishing methods that have the most significant impact include longline fishing and trawling. When longline fishing boats cast bait into the sea, seabirds often seize the opportunity to snatch the bait and may get hooked, leading to injuries or fatalities. The black-browed albatross, white-chinned petrel, and wandering albatross are the seabirds most commonly caught by accident.
