Biodiversity loss due to human-induced environmental changes is one of the biggest crises facing humanity today. Not only does it change the structure, function and integrity of ecological systems, but its associated ecosystem service degradation can also profoundly threaten human wellbeing. A lack of knowledge around the different components of biodiversity and their changes has prevented effective biodiversity conservation and sustainable development. Motivated by the crisis and this critical knowledge gap, I am interested in characterizing spatiotemporal patterns and dynamics of biodiversity across scales, understanding and predicting biodiversity responses to environmental changes, and assessing and improving the performance of conservation interventions in the Anthropocene.
