Our research draws inspiration from evolutionary ecology and systems biology, focusing on how the structure and function of biological systems—from communities to individuals and genes—emerge and remain stable. Using plant–bacteria symbiosis as our primary study system, we explore the following directions:
- Experimental evolution of host specificity
- Ecological repeatability of symbiont community assembly
- Natural variation in symbiosis across environmental gradients
